Gippsland Biorefinery
C-Loop's foundation project sits in the La Trobe Valley in Victoria, about 180 km east of Melbourne. Situated in the foothills of the Great Dividing Range, spanning both the La Trobe City and Wellington Shires, and part of the broader Gippsland region, it is known for it's coal fired power stations and traditional agricultural base. Historically known for its dairy industry, the area has recently diversified to include poultry farming, broadacre cropping and intensive horticulture due to the recent decline in the diary sector locally.

Jobs for the local community
C-Loop’s biorefinery will employ upwards of 25-30 full time local staff in addition to contractors to support the day to day management of the biorefinery – many of whom will have transferable skills from the regions declining sectors.

Baseload energy production
The biorefinery will generate of 20,000MWH of baseload renewable electricity each year

Sustainable CO2 Production
The biorefinery will generate ~ 10,000t of Sustainable Food Grade CO2 each year.

Spirulina production
Up to 200 tonnes per annum of high-value micro algae (Spirulina) will be cultivated and processed over 3ha of raceway ponds operating within a controlled, bio secure sustainable environment

Blue spirulina production (food colourant)
Upwards of 16 tonnes of food grade, natural blue spirulina food colourant will be produced each year.

Renewable heat production
75,000 GJ of renewable heat will be produced and used onsite each year to cultivate spirulina.

Carbon abatement
This project will produce ~ 20,000 Large Generation Certificates (LGC’s) representing 20,000 tonnes of carbon abatement from the project per annum.
